Drive Front Beach Road from the Hathaway Bridge to the Walton County line and you can feel it. The stretch between the pier and Pier Park is where the cranes are. It is where the marquees have changed. It is where the summer calendar keeps pointing. If you already live in Panama City Beach, the story of this season is not that a few new places opened. It is that the east end of the beach is quietly turning into a year-round entertainment district, and the pieces arriving in 2026 are what lock that in.
Here is what a resident's summer looks like right now, and where the map is heading next.
The pier corner is a construction site with a deadline
The most visible change is the empty lot at 16201 Front Beach Road. Hook'd Pier Bar & Grill, which sat at the base of the M.B. Miller County Pier for years, was damaged by fire and is being rebuilt from the ground up. Panama City Beach Parks and Recreation announced last summer that demolition of Hook'd has begun, with an expected reopening in Spring 2026, and the new build will be larger, with more seating, a bigger deck, and two floors.
That timeline slid, and as of this month the pier corner is still under construction rather than pouring drinks. For neighbors, that means one more summer of parking-lot detours and one fewer sunset patio at the pier. It also means the version that comes back will not be the beach shack locals remember. Two stories and an expanded deck is a different animal, and the city has been open about why it wants that footprint. Cheryl Joyner, PCB's Parks and Recreation director, told WJHG that the restaurant is a huge revenue source for the city, and losing it also cost the adjacent bait and tackle operation, which they are working to bring back in a smaller form.
Read that alongside everything else happening within a mile, and the pier corner rebuild starts to look less like a one-off and more like a piece of a plan.
Pier Park has stopped being a shopping center
For a decade Pier Park worked as an outdoor mall with a movie theater and a Ferris wheel bolted on. In 2026 it functions as something closer to a Branson-style attractions district. Three moves made that shift.
Dolly Parton's company entered the market. Dolly Parton's Pirate's Voyage Dinner Show is now open in Panama City Beach's Pier Park area, with a four-course feast and pirate battles inside a 60,000-square-foot indoor theater you cannot miss driving through PCB. That same company then bought the wheel across the street. Dolly Parton's World Choice Investments purchased the SkyWheel and renamed it the PCB Wheel, and 2025 annual passes are being honored until they expire with no need to redo them.
Topgolf followed. Topgolf has opened near Pier Park, with 74 outdoor climate-controlled hitting bays, a full-service restaurant and bar, a 22-foot video wall, and more than 140 HDTVs. On a rainy August afternoon that is a different option than PCB residents had two years ago.
And the bar bench moved. McGuire's Irish Pub is open in Panama City Beach as the third location of the New York Irish saloon concept, joining Destin and Pensacola. When a Destin institution decides its next store belongs in PCB, that is a market signal worth reading.
None of these are one-off openings. They are the same operators buying and building across the same quarter-mile.
Thursday nights already have a schedule
If the built environment is changing, the weekly calendar is not. Aaron Bessant Park still does the heavy lifting for live music, and this year's series is set. Panama City Beach Parks and Recreation is presenting the 2026 Summer Concert Series at Aaron Bessant Park, every Thursday from June 4 through August 6, starting at 7 PM, and the concerts are completely free. Lawn chairs, blankets, coolers, food, and pets are welcome at the Aaron Bessant Park Amphitheater, which matters if you have kids or a dog and no interest in packing anything into a ticketed venue.
For residents planning around it, the shape of the summer looks like this:

The annual Pirates of the High Seas & Renaissance Fest sets sail October 10-12 with fireworks, live mermaid shows, a fire circus, parades, a treasure drop, and Cirque Adventure each night, and Real. Fun. Fourth. runs across the July holiday weekend with four fireworks displays that can be watched from a waterfront restaurant or beach resort. The kickoff week of the summer series had J and the Causeways playing modern soul, funk, and R&B on June 4. Between now and Labor Day, a resident who wanted to could put every Thursday on the calendar and never pay a cover.
The country festival horse has already left the barn for the year. Gulf Coast Jam, the four-day country music festival held annually in PCB, ran May 28–31, 2026 at Frank Brown Park with Keith Urban, Chris Stapleton, Riley Green, and Post Malone as headliners. That is a lineup with two Grammy-tier headliners playing a park most Panhandle residents can reach in under an hour. It is the kind of booking that used to require driving to Nashville or Atlanta.
The next domino is a surf lagoon
The reason the east-end shift matters for anyone who lives here is what has been permitted next. Shell Point Beach & Surf Club will be built just east of the new Topgolf complex near Pier Park, partnering with Endless Surf to bring year-round waves to the Emerald Coast on a 10.5-acre surf destination.
That is a lot of nouns. The short version is a wave pool with a members' club wrapped around it. Shell Point will include a family-friendly beach, pool, leisure zones, kids' splash pad, a two-story open-air clubhouse with restaurant and bar, event space, a members' beach club with a private pool and spa, a swim-up bar with views of the Endless Surf Lagoon, and a surf academy with coaching from beginner to pro level. Construction is not immediate. Construction is set to begin in 2026 with the goal of opening in 2027.
For a resident, three practical things follow. First, expect the traffic pattern on Front Beach Road east of Pier Park to change during construction. Second, a wave pool is a rainy-day, non-hurricane, non-tourist-season use. It turns a beach amenity into a January amenity. Third, the "just east of Topgolf" language means the entertainment cluster is not spreading out along the beach so much as thickening in place. The same square mile is going to be doing a lot more work by 2027.
What this means if you already live here
The generic summer round-up you have seen on other sites is a list. This is not a list. Every one of the pieces above sits inside a fifteen-minute drive of the pier, and most of them are owned or operated by groups that already run other PCB attractions. When Dolly Parton's company owns both the biggest new dinner theater and the wheel across the street, when Topgolf and a surf lagoon anchor the same block, when the city treats the pier restaurant rebuild as a revenue priority, the story is not "PCB has new things." The story is that the east end of Front Beach Road is being consolidated into a single entertainment quarter, and the summer of 2026 is the last one before the next wave of construction really shows up.
That has implications for how residents use the beach, where the Thursday-night traffic goes, and which corners are going to feel busier in the shoulder seasons. It is worth paying attention to now, while you can still get a parking spot at Aaron Bessant on a concert night without circling.
